This 4 week rotation is normally done by second year categorical medicine residents. The goal is to form a research question, perform a literature review, and write both a background and methods section of a research proposal. At the end of the rotation, projects are presented as brief Powerpoint presentations, and formal written proposals are handed in. Preliminary residents may do a less formal research rotation, in which the resident typically lays the groundwork for a project to be done at the site of his/her following residency program.
