The program is based at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, a quaternary referral center for Arizona and adjoining states.  "Good Sam" is a major teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine.  Throughout the academic year, students from the University of Arizona perform their required and elective clinical clerkships at Good Sam.  The Internal Medicine program is fully integrated between Good Samaritan and the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  This integration creates an academic environment analogous to a university program, combined with a supportive faculty strongly committed to teaching and patient care.

The foundation of this program is our commitment to teaching, especially primary care.  Inpatient experiences allow our residents to care for patients with general medicine and subspecialty problems.  The program also provides the house officer with numerous opportunities to master the art of outpatient medicine through their longitudinal clinic experience and various outpatient based electives offered at Good Sam, the Phoenix VAMC, ASU and private office practices.

Over the years many of our graduates have chosen general internal medicine as their career.  Others have pursued subspecialty fellowship training at either highly competitive programs or in one of our own fellowship programs.  Many of our graduates enjoy the southwestern lifestyle and take advantage of the ample practice opportunities at the local or regional level.
