Residency Programs

Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at Good Samaritan

Program Philosophy

Our primary mission is to provide excellent training in both Medicine and Pediatrics.  Research and community service are important aspects of our program. We realize that training in Medicine & Pediatrics is uniquely challenging, and our program has a unique sense of camaraderie to support you along the way.

The Phoenix Hospitals Program sponsored by Banner Good Samaritan is well established, in existence since 1982 and is the oldest program in the Southwest.  Clinical experiences take place at four institutions, in close proximity to each other in the heart of Phoenix.  The Combined MedPeds Progam is integrated with the categorical Pediatrics Program at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Maricopa Medical Center, and the categorical Internal Medicine Program at Banner Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and the Phoenix Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Each program is fully accredited by the ACGME, and a primary affiliate of the University Of Arizona College Of Medicine.
This affiliation creates an academic environment analogous to a university program, in the setting of strong clinical faculty who are supportive and strongly committed to excellent teaching and patient care.

One of the strengths of our program is the access to a large and diverse patient population.  This provides a rich clinical experience, in hospitals that provide both General Internal Medicine & Pediatric care, as well as in institutions that serve as Tertiary Referral Centers for Internal Medicine & Pediatric Subspecialties. Our program includes a full range of Adult & Pediatric Sub specialists, who offer excellent clinical instruction in a supportive environment.

We understand that training in MedPeds can be the basis for a career in Primary Care, or excellent preparation for a Subspecialty Fellowship.  We seek to maintain flexibility within our clinical curriculum to tailor the training experience to the long term goals of each individual resident, while still meeting all requirements for dual certification.
